Improvised experiments to study behavioral responses of Drosophila melanogaster   (fruit fly)

Experiments are vital to train the students in scientific method, to develop creativity, problem solving ability and psycho-motor skills. Incidentally, from easily available materials inexpensive experiments are improvised to study the behavioral responses of fruit flies to various stimuli like light, gravity, temperature and chemicals (food). The effectiveness/ applicability of the experimental setups are tested with use of three strains of flies viz. red eye, sepia eye and white eye and the results are being published. Further, these experiments can be carried out even at home and will give an insight to the learner to design such experiments/ projects for other organisms. Moreover, these experiments are designed especially for the students of IX – XII class to go beyond text book and to enjoy the spirit of science. #lowcostexperiments #scientificmethod #problemsolvingability #psychomoto skills #behavioralresponsesoffruitflies #homemadeexperiments #homelab
